Van Quyet’s late strike secures close win for Hanoi FC over Binh Dinh

Hanoi FC edged past Binh Dinh with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a late long-range goal by Van Quyet. The hard-fought win in their 2024/2025 LPBank V-League opener puts Hanoi FC temporarily at the top with three points.

Both Hanoi FC and Binh Dinh finished in the top three last season, but Binh Dinh underwent significant roster changes, parting ways with more than 15 players during the summer. While they made several signings, most were to fill gaps left by departures, in contrast to Hanoi FC’s stability, which provided coach Le Duc Tuan with a well-balanced and quality squad.

Despite the differences in squad depth and the home advantage for Hanoi FC, the first half remained goalless. Binh Dinh, under coach Bui Doan Quang Huy, set up a solid defensive formation, effectively “parking the bus” with three disciplined lines of defense, frustrating Hanoi’s attacking efforts.

Hanoi FC’s key attackers, including Tuan Hai, Hai Long, and Van Quyet, tried their luck from various distances, but goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh remained calm and made several important saves. The most dangerous moment of the first half came in the 35th minute when Van Quyet delivered a cross from the right to Hai Long, but Joao Pedro’s final shot was blocked, keeping the score level.

The second half saw Hanoi FC continue to control the game. In the 49th minute, Van Quyet created a chance for Van Xuan, but the defender’s shot flew over the bar. Just nine minutes later, Joao Pedro brought the ball down with his chest and unleashed a quick shot, but it missed the target. Despite relentless pressure, Binh Dinh’s defense, led by goalkeeper Tuan Linh, remained solid.

Hanoi FC nearly paid the price for their missed chances in the 79th minute when Binh Dinh launched a counterattack. Vu Minh Tuan played a perfectly timed through ball for Leonardo, whose powerful shot was denied by goalkeeper Van Hoang, keeping Hanoi in the game.

Just when it seemed like the match would end in a draw, Van Quyet delivered a moment of brilliance in the 83rd minute. Receiving the ball from a teammate, he controlled it with one touch before firing a powerful shot from outside the box, sending it into the corner of the net past a helpless Tuan Linh.

Hanoi FC nearly doubled their lead in the 89th minute when Van Quyet played a clever through ball to Van Tung, but the striker’s effort was saved by Tuan Linh. In stoppage time, Van Quyet continued to create opportunities, delivering a pinpoint cross to substitute Chidi Kwem, but the forward’s header was too easy for the goalkeeper.

Despite the tense finish, Hanoi FC held on for a crucial 1-0 victory over Binh Dinh. While the match was tougher than expected, the capital club secured an important three points to kick off their 2024/2025 V-League campaign.
