Coach Popov shares the challenges faced by Thanh Hoa FC in the Shopee Cup 2024/25

In the pre-match press conference ahead of Thanh Hoa FC’s away game against Terengganu FC in the second round of the 2024/2025 Southeast Asian Champions League, head coach Velizar Popov shared the challenges his team faced during their travel from Vietnam to Malaysia.

This morning (September 24), Thanh Hoa FC held the press conference before their upcoming clash with Terengganu FC. After the first round, Thanh Hoa is currently leading Group A, having secured a 3-1 victory over Shan United (Myanmar).

Another representative from Vietnam, Hanoi Police FC, is also among the leaders of Group B, sharing three points with Borneo FC (Indonesia) and Kuala Lumpur City (Malaysia).

Speaking at the press conference, Coach Popov expressed, “We are proud to represent Vietnam in this international competition, and we aim to perform our best to bring joy to our fans. After our recent victory in the V-League, we are also looking to secure a good result in tomorrow’s match.”

Thanh Hoa FC traveled from Hanoi to Malaysia on a nearly four-hour flight. The team had to wake up at 4 AM on September 23 to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu. Upon arrival that afternoon, they immediately headed to the field for a training session.

Coach Popov, aged 48, acknowledged the difficulties faced by his team due to the long and tight travel schedule. “We faced challenges as it took us two days to reach Terengganu, especially after a tough V-League match. However, everything is fine, and we are well-prepared for tomorrow’s official match,” he said.

When evaluating their opponent, Coach Popov commented, “Terengganu FC is a strong team in Malaysia. We know they have excellent facilities and a roster of quality players, both domestic and foreign. Our squad includes many young players who need time playing alongside experienced teammates to continue improving.”

According to the schedule of the 2024/2025 Southeast Asian Champions League, Thanh Hoa FC will face Terengganu FC at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium tomorrow (September 25) at 8 PM Vietnam time.
