Round 2 of LP Bank V.League 1 – 2024/25: Hoang Anh Gia Lai strengthens their hold on the top position

In their first home match at Thien Truong Stadium for the 2024-2025 V-League season, Nam Dinh head coach Vu Hong Viet introduced striker Rafaelson, who officially became a Vietnamese citizen under the name Nguyen Xuan Son. This naturalization allowed the reigning V-League champions to field four foreign players, including Xuan Son, Hendrio, De Jesus, and Caio Cesar. However, despite boasting a star-studded lineup, Nam Dinh struggled against a resilient Quang Nam defense.

Fortunately for the home side, a single goal by Hendrio, assisted by Xuan Son, secured a narrow 1-0 victory. The win gave Nam Dinh their first three points of the season, lifting them out of the bottom half of the table and placing them in eighth, allowing them to re-enter the race for the top spots.

Meanwhile, Quang Nam suffered their second consecutive defeat, having conceded five goals without scoring any. They are currently at the bottom of the table with zero points, facing a challenging path ahead as they aim for a top-five finish this season.

This match at Thien Truong Stadium marked the conclusion of the second round of the 2024-2025 V-League, with two teams that narrowly avoided relegation last season, HAGL and Ha Tinh, now sharing the top spot. They remain the only teams with perfect records after the first two rounds.

Binh Duong, led by star striker Tien Linh, currently sits third with four points, while last season’s surprise contender, Ho Chi Minh City FC, continues to impress, holding fourth place due to a slight goal difference. Under head coach Phung Thanh Phuong’s guidance, “The Red Battleship” achieved a thrilling victory at Quy Nhon Stadium against Binh Dinh FC.

As predicted, last season’s runner-up, Binh Dinh, has been weakened significantly after losing key players. Combined with bad luck in crucial moments, head coach Bui Doan Quang Huy’s team now sits in the second-to-last position, sharing zero points with Quang Nam.
