Nam Dinh vs Bangkok United: A victory to assert ambition

Tonight, on October 2, the second round of the AFC Champions League Two 2024/2025 group stage will feature eight matches, with the highlight being the 7:00 PM encounter between Nam Dinh and Bangkok United.

In the opening round, both Nam Dinh and Bangkok United secured victories. Nam Dinh triumphed over Lee Man (Hong Kong, China) with a 2-0 scoreline, while Bangkok United overcame Tampines Rovers (Singapore) 4-2 to take the top spot in the group.

After their dominant V-League 2023/2024 championship, Nam Dinh has set its sights on making an impact on the continental stage, and tonight’s match against the Thai powerhouse offers an opportunity for the reigning Vietnamese champions to solidify those ambitions.

However, Nam Dinh’s performances thus far in both the V-League and AFC Champions League Two have been somewhat underwhelming and have not lived up to the level of investment and expectations set by the club ahead of the season. Therefore, a strong performance, ideally culminating in three points against Bangkok United, is what coach Vu Hong Viet and his team will be aiming for.

Bangkok United arrives in Vietnam with a quality lineup.

Crucially, Nam Dinh will be able to field a full complement of foreign players tonight, as the AFC allows unlimited use of international players in this competition. Their new signing, Moses Odo, has been included in the squad, giving Nam Dinh the option to start with as many as eight foreign players in the lineup.

This will be key for Nam Dinh, especially considering the strength of their opponents, Bangkok United, who have brought a formidable squad to Vietnam. The standout foreign player for Bangkok United is Luka Adzic, valued at 1 million euros. Playing as a winger, Adzic has previous experience in the Dutch Eredivisie with PEC Zwolle.

Adzic has also represented Serbia at the youth international level, scoring two goals in 19 appearances for the U21 national team. Besides Luka Adzic, Bangkok United boasts other highly-valued foreign players, such as Richairo Zivkovic (valued at 600,000 euros) and Mamoud Eid (valued at 500,000 euros).

Bangkok United is currently in good form in the Thai League, where they sit third in the standings. Over their last five matches, they have secured three wins and two draws.

The match between Nam Dinh and Bangkok United will kick off at 7:00 PM on October 2 at Thien Truong Stadium.
