Hoang Anh Gia Lai maintains their unbeaten streak

Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) continued their impressive form with a solid performance against Da Nang, despite playing away from home.

Da Nang, facing an in-form HAGL, surprisingly opted not to play defensively but instead pushed the pace from the start. The team relied heavily on foreign striker Yuri in the opening minutes, but his finishing lacked precision.

In the 24th minute, Da Nang was awarded a penalty after a mistake by HAGL goalkeeper Trung Kien, which led to a foul by Dung Quang Nho in the box. However, Trung Kien redeemed himself by saving Yuri’s penalty, keeping the score level.

Trung Kien, born in 2003, has been having an outstanding season and was recently called up to the Vietnam national team for the October 2024 training camp. His stellar form helped U21 HAGL secure the national U21 championship earlier in the year, where they won consecutive matches and triumphed in a penalty shootout.

Da Nang continued to apply pressure but saw Yuri squander more chances. Failing to capitalize on their attacking opportunities, Da Nang soon paid the price.

In the 34th minute, HAGL took advantage of a set-piece when Marciel delivered a well-placed cross into the box. Da Nang goalkeeper Van Bieu misjudged the ball, and Jairo comfortably slotted it into the net, giving HAGL the lead.

Da Nang tried to push forward for an equalizer before halftime but couldn’t break through HAGL’s defense.

In the second half, HAGL created the first dangerous chance, with Minh Vuong taking a shot towards the far corner, only for Van Bieu to make an excellent save. Da Nang responded with efforts from Duy Cuong and Marlon, but their shots failed to find the target.

Da Nang’s persistence paid off in the 72nd minute when Werick Caetano fired a quick shot past Trung Kien, leaving the goalkeeper rooted to the spot as the ball hit the back of the net.

Both teams had opportunities in the remaining minutes, but poor finishing saw the match end in a 1-1 draw. Da Nang had to settle for a point at home against Hoang Anh Gia Lai.
