Coach Kim Sang Sik has identified a new captain for the national team

During the October 2024 FIFA Days training camp, the Vietnam national football team made changes to its leadership structure.

Compared to the previous camp in September 2024, the Vietnam national team has now restructured its captaincy. The latest announcement confirms that Que Ngoc Hai will return as the team captain, with Nguyen Tien Linh and Bui Hoang Viet Anh serving as vice-captains.

Que Ngoc Hai previously held the role of captain under coach Park Hang-seo. However, after the AFF Cup 2022 and subsequent coaching staff changes, Que Ngoc Hai was no longer the national team’s captain.

Speaking about his return to the captaincy, Que Ngoc Hai shared: “Honestly, whether I’m in the leadership team or not, I’m still a member of the squad. What’s most important is being able to play and contribute to the national team.”

“I am one of the experienced players in the team, and it’s necessary for me to share my knowledge with the younger players while also focusing on improving myself. Not just me, but all the experienced players in the team need to make efforts to mentor and guide the younger ones, so we can build a better national team.”

Que Ngoc Hai also emphasized that the coaching staff wants experienced players like Van Quyet and Hung Dung to help bridge the gap and create cohesion within the team: “At this time, the team has many young players. Creating unity between experienced and younger players is extremely important, especially as we aim for upcoming goals, particularly the ASEAN Cup.”

Previously, during the September 2024 camp, Do Hung Dung held the role of captain for the Vietnam national team.
