Vietnam futsal team is focusing on addressing weaknesses highlighted by head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi as they prepare for the 2024 AFF Futsal Championship in Thailand.
Since beginning training on October 10, the team has been working to overcome the disappointment of missing out on a World Cup berth. Coach Giustozzi, from Argentina, has made key changes in an effort to bring about positive developments for the squad.
Coach Giustozzi identified Vietnam’s issues in finishing and individual decision-making on the court as the primary reasons for their failure to qualify for the World Cup. He shared: “I believe that the overall tactics of the Vietnam futsal team are either on par or superior to those of the opponents we faced recently. In fact, if individual players had executed better, we could have achieved better results.”
“The most important aspect I want to improve for the Vietnamese players is their tactical execution on an individual level, for each position on the court. If each player performs better, the overall team tactics will also function more smoothly.”
Vietnam’s struggle to score, averaging just one goal per game in the AFC Futsal Championship, has left Giustozzi dissatisfied. As a result, the coaching staff is prioritizing improving the players’ ability to convert chances into goals during this training camp.
According to the schedule, the Vietnam futsal team will travel to Thailand for a training camp on October 25. They are expected to play two friendly matches: against Thai club Hongyen Thakam on October 27, a team that defeated Thai Son Nam 5-1 in the semifinals of the 2023 ASEAN Futsal Club Championship, and against the Australian futsal team on October 29.
The 2024 AFF Futsal Championship will take place from November 2 to November 10. Vietnam has been drawn into Group A, where they will face Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, and Timor Leste.
