For the first time in history, a Vietnamese female referee will officiate at the U17 Women’s World Cup 2024. Vietnamese football will be represented by two female referees, Le Thi Ly and Ha Thi Phuong, who have been selected by FIFA to officiate in matches during the tournament.
Le Thi Ly will serve as the head referee, while Ha Thi Phuong will take on the role of assistant referee for the match between Brazil U17 Women and Zambia U17 Women. This match is scheduled to take place at 6:00 AM (Vietnam time) on October 18 at Felix Sanchez Stadium.
Le Thi Ly has previously officiated at the U20 Asian Cup 2025, making her the first female referee from Vietnam to be assigned to an Asian tournament. Now, she continues to make history by taking on the same role at the global level in the U17 World Cup.
The 2024 U17 Women’s World Cup will feature 16 teams, including three representatives from Asia: North Korea, Japan, and South Korea. Asian teams have won the championship four times across the tournament’s seven previous editions, with North Korea securing two titles, and South Korea and Japan each winning once.
Spain U17 Women, the reigning champions, will play their opening match against USA U17 Women at 3:00 AM (Vietnam time) on October 17.
