Geovane applies for Vietnamese citizenship

After Nguyen Xuan Son, striker Geovane Magno, currently ranked second in the goal-scoring list of V-League 2024-2025, is in the process of applying for Vietnamese citizenship.

Geovane: A Talented Foreign Player

Geovane Magno is considered one of the top foreign players in V-League in recent years, having helped Saigon FC secure third place in the 2020 season. In the ongoing V-League 2024-2025, he has scored three goals in four matches for Ha Tinh FC, trailing only Tiến Linh and becoming the first player to score a hat-trick this season.

According to transfermarkt, Geovane has netted 32 goals in 97 V-League appearances. Apart from his goal-scoring abilities, the Brazilian striker is recognized for his dribbling skills and fair play, making him an attractive player in the league.

Now, with five years of playing experience in Vietnam, the 1994-born striker is eligible to represent the Vietnam national team if he successfully completes the naturalization process. However, whether he will be able to participate in the 2024 AFF Cup remains uncertain due to the timeline of the procedures.

A Boost for the Vietnam National Team

Standing at an impressive 1.88 meters, Geovane combines height with technical ability, making him a versatile player who can perform as a central striker, attacking midfielder, or even a central midfielder. He is the only foreign player to have played for three major clubs in Hanoi (Hanoi FC, Hanoi Police FC, and Viettel FC).

Should he meet the criteria to play for the Vietnam national team, Geovane would be a significant asset for coach Kim Sang-sik, addressing key midfield and attacking connections. This is particularly crucial as several domestic stars in these positions are currently struggling with form.

At 30 years old and known for his professional lifestyle, Geovane could continue to contribute at a high level for a few more years. Before him, another Brazilian player, Nguyen Xuan Son (formerly Rafaelson), officially became a Vietnamese citizen after receiving the decision from Nam Dinh’s Department of Justice on October 15.
