Hanoi FC snatched a dramatic point with a stoppage-time equalizer in the 90+14th minute during their thrilling derby against Hanoi Police FC.
The highly anticipated match in round 4 of the 2024-2025 LPBank V-League took place at Hang Day Stadium at 7:15 PM on October 19, featuring Hanoi FC hosting Hanoi Police FC. This clash between two former V-League champions was captivating not only because of the star-studded lineups but also because both teams were desperate for points to stay in the title race.
With a slightly superior squad, Hanoi Police FC controlled the match, launching relentless attacks, while Hanoi FC struggled to break through in midfield. The pairing of Quang Hai and Vitao for CAHN worked smoothly, allowing them to find openings towards the goal.
In the 24th minute, Hanoi FC nearly conceded. Vu Van Thanh’s header hit the post, and then in a retreating defensive move, Thanh Chung almost scored an own goal, but the center-back managed to clear the ball just before it crossed the line.
Hanoi Police FC soon capitalized on their dominance with the opening goal. In the 35th minute, Vitao’s well-placed header set up Leo Artur, who calmly slotted the ball into the net after a cross from Bui Hoang Viet Anh. This marked Leo Artur’s second consecutive game in which he broke the deadlock for Hanoi Police FC, having also done so for his previous team, Binh Dinh.
Despite Hanoi FC keeping up with the pace, they were unable to convert their chances in the first half. Coach Le Duc Tuan’s team found it difficult to penetrate CAHN’s well-organized defense, led by Viet Anh.
In the second half, Hanoi FC increased the pressure, inspired by their captain, Van Quyet. In the 57th minute, Van Quyet’s free-kick deflected off the Hanoi Police FC wall, leading to a scramble in the box. Forward Tuan Hai seized the moment with a brilliant volley past Filip Nguyen. However, VAR ruled the goal out due to an offside violation by Tuan Hai.
Coach Le Duc Tuan then introduced Chidi Kwen, one of the highest-valued foreign players in the V-League, to bolster Hanoi FC’s attack. Despite this, Hanoi Police FC’s defense remained solid. They also had dangerous counter-attacks, with Dinh Bac forcing Hanoi’s goalkeeper into a difficult save in the 76th minute.
As the match approached its end, Hanoi FC pushed forward relentlessly. Their efforts paid off in the 97th minute when Hugo Gomes of Hanoi Police FC committed a foul in the box. Referee Nguyen Manh Hai awarded a penalty to Hanoi FC, and in the 14th minute of added time, Tuan Hai calmly converted from the spot, securing a crucial point for his team.
With the 1-1 draw in this intense capital derby, neither Hanoi FC nor Hanoi Police FC could gain ground in the V-League standings.
