Vietnamese football received exciting news from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) when it was awarded special prizes for grassroots and youth football development.
The “Football for All in Vietnam” (FFAV) project, a collaborative initiative between the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), was launched in 2001 with Nguyen Hoang Phuong as the project manager. The aim of this project is to promote grassroots football in schools and social welfare centers to help build character, improve physical health for students, and prevent social issues.
Throughout its years of operation, FFAV has achieved significant milestones, including the establishment of numerous football clubs in Thua Thien Hue province and other areas. The project also integrates life skills education into football activities. For its positive contributions to community football development, FFAV has twice received AFC’s prestigious “Dream Asia Gold Award” in 2015 and 2017.
In addition to the grassroots football award, the PVF Football Academy won the prestigious Youth Academy of the Year award, recognizing its excellence in youth football development. This accolade is a significant honor for the PVF Youth Football Training Center.
Alongside announcing these special awards for grassroots and youth football, AFC has also revealed the shortlist of the top three nominations for key categories to be presented at the AFC Annual Awards, scheduled to take place on October 29 in Seoul, South Korea.
In the “Member Association of the Year” category, which honors outstanding football federations in 2023, the VFF has been named in the top three nominees for the Diamond Award (the second-highest ranking after Platinum), alongside the Chinese Football Association and the Football Association of Thailand.
Vietnam is also shortlisted for the AFC President’s Recognition Award for Grassroots Football (Bronze category), acknowledging the country’s active involvement in youth training and community football. The other two nominees in this category are Taiwan (China) and Cambodia.
