U17 PVF secures third place in a friendly tournament in South Korea

U17 PVF club from Vietnam concluded an impressive run at the K-League Asian Youth Championship Jeju 2024 by securing third place with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Japan’s Mito Hollyhock in the bronze medal match. This result not only demonstrates the team’s skill but also marks a significant achievement for Vietnamese youth football on an international stage, where PVF competed against some of Asia’s elite youth clubs.

During the tournament’s group stage, PVF showed great resilience and strategic play. They opened their campaign with a challenging match against South Korea’s Jeju United, ending in a 1-1 draw. In their second group-stage game, PVF claimed a significant 2-1 win over Mito Hollyhock, showcasing the team’s ability to adapt and overcome the strengths of their Japanese opponents. They followed up with another 2-1 victory over Pohang Steelers, another strong South Korean club, securing their place in the semifinals with confidence and momentum. The group stage results reflected PVF’s tactical versatility and consistent teamwork, which were key factors in their progression through the tournament.

The semifinal match against Japan’s Roasso Kumamoto proved to be one of the most challenging fixtures for PVF. Despite their efforts and a closely contested battle, PVF narrowly lost with a score of 0-1. This loss meant they would move to the third-place playoff instead of the final, but it didn’t dampen the team’s spirit. The squad remained focused and determined to finish the tournament on a high note, which set the stage for their final game against Mito Hollyhock.

In the third-place playoff match, PVF once again faced Mito Hollyhock. Having already defeated them in the group stage, PVF approached the rematch with confidence and a clear understanding of their opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. Through tactical adjustments and disciplined play, PVF successfully repeated their group-stage performance, securing a 2-1 victory to clinch third place. This victory was not only a testament to the players’ technical skills but also to their mental resilience, allowing them to overcome the disappointment of the semifinal loss and finish with a strong performance.

The K-League Asian Youth Championship provided PVF with invaluable experience, as they had the opportunity to compete against top-tier youth teams from South Korea and Japan. Such exposure is critical for the development of young Vietnamese players, as it enables them to gain insights into different styles of play and helps them build confidence on an international stage.

By achieving third place, PVF has reinforced its reputation as a rising force in Asian youth football. The club’s success at this championship also highlights the potential of Vietnamese football development and the effectiveness of PVF’s training programs, positioning the club well for future competitions and drawing attention to the growing competitiveness of Vietnamese youth football.
