Head Coach Kim Sang Sik has detailed his plans for scouting missions in Indonesia and the Philippines as part of Vietnam’s preparations for the ASEAN Cup 2024. The Vietnamese national team is set to embark on a two-week training camp in South Korea at the end of November to sharpen their strategy and cohesion ahead of the tournament.
During this camp, Kim and his team plan to conduct a thorough scouting operation on key opponents. The coach will first travel to Manila on November 14 to observe the Philippines, a direct competitor in Vietnam’s group for a semifinal spot. The Philippine team, known as the Azkals, will host Hong Kong during the FIFA Days in mid-November, providing Kim with a valuable opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses.
Following his stop in Manila, Kim will continue to Indonesia, where he will closely analyze the strength of the Indonesian squad, another formidable opponent for Vietnam. Indonesia will face Saudi Arabia on November 15 and Japan on November 19, two challenging matches that will offer insight into Indonesia’s game dynamics and tactical approaches.
Discussing the upcoming preparations, Kim shared with Tuoi Tre: “Vietnam will have a three-week preparation period for the AFF Cup 2024. During this time, my focus will be on enhancing physical fitness, improving teamwork across all lines, and fostering the players’ competitive spirit. In the South Korea training camp, we’ll also schedule some friendly matches against Korean clubs to refine our strategies and build cohesion.”
The ASEAN Cup, set to begin in early December, will see Vietnam competing for top honors among Southeast Asian nations. Kim Sang Sik’s comprehensive approach, which includes scouting key matches and intensive training, underscores the team’s dedication to delivering a strong performance in the tournament.
