Coach Mai Duc Chung is pleased as the women’s national team secures the runner-up position in China

Head Coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his satisfaction with the Vietnamese women’s national team’s performance in the Yongchuan Chongqing International Friendly Tournament held in Chongqing, China.

On the evening of October 29, Vietnam faced off against the host nation, China, at the Yongchuan Sports Center Stadium. Both teams entered this final match of the tournament after winning their previous games against Uzbekistan. Although Vietnam fought with determination, they were ultimately defeated by the 18th-ranked Chinese team, finishing the tournament as runners-up with a 0-2 scoreline.

Despite the loss, the Vietnamese squad gained valuable experience, particularly for younger players who benefitted from competing against high-caliber opponents. Veteran players also gained additional match practice against challenging international competition, contributing to the team’s overall development.

Coach Mai Duc Chung shared his assessment of the team’s performance: “This tournament serves as an important stepping stone for the Vietnamese women’s national team. Unfortunately, we have had few international competitions this year. Recently, Hanoi FC had an international tournament with clubs from China and the Philippines, and Thai Nguyen T&T also participated. Ho Chi Minh City’s women’s team had the opportunity to compete in the Asian Women’s Club Championship, but beyond these, our teams haven’t had much international exposure.”

He emphasized the importance of international matches for Vietnam’s women’s football: “Vietnamese women’s football requires more international fixtures to improve and gain experience. This international friendly tournament was highly beneficial, allowing our players to train and become accustomed to a high-intensity schedule. This experience will be invaluable as we prepare for the important competitions scheduled for next year.”

This tournament has not only provided competitive exposure but has also reinforced the importance of developing resilience and adaptability, both vital as the Vietnamese women’s team aims to elevate their level in upcoming international challenges.
