In a thrilling match on November 6, Vietnam’s futsal team pulled off an impressive 3-2 victory over host Thailand in the group stage of the 2024 ASEAN Futsal Championship. With both teams already through to the semifinals, this game determined the top position in Group A.
The high stakes brought an energetic start, as both teams played with confidence and an attacking mindset. Thailand struck first in the 5th minute when Charoenphong sprinted down the right wing and delivered a pass that resulted in the opening goal. However, Vietnam, led by Coach Diego Giustozzi, showed composure and quickly regained momentum, engaging in open play with the Thai side.
After several missed opportunities, Vietnam found the equalizer in the 12th minute. Minh Quang delivered a smart corner kick, setting up Duc Hoa for a quick shot that found the net, leveling the score at 1-1 as the first half concluded.
The intense pace continued in the second half, with both teams generating multiple scoring chances but struggling to convert. In the 31st minute, Tanachot capitalized on a Vietnamese turnover at midfield, breaking through and firing a precise shot to restore Thailand’s lead at 2-1.
Once again trailing, Vietnam responded with determination. In the 35th minute, a powerful long-range shot forced a rebound from Thailand’s goalkeeper, allowing Cong Vien to capitalize and tie the game 2-2.
Just a minute later, Vietnam executed a well-coordinated attack as Da Hai crossed to the far post, where Cong Vien was ready to tap in from close range, putting Vietnam ahead 3-2.
In the final minutes, Thailand adopted a power-play strategy, seeking an equalizer, but Vietnam’s defense held firm. The match ended 3-2 in favor of Vietnam, securing them the top spot in Group A. Coach Giustozzi’s squad now advances to the semifinals, where they will face Australia.
