
On December 7, Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports officially launched the Southeast Asian Games 2025 (SEA Games 33) and the 13th ASEAN Para Games with a focus on promoting environmental protection, sustainability, and green initiatives.
Under the theme “Green SEA GAMES” and “Sustainable ASEAN Para Games,” Thailand will host the 33rd SEA Games from December 9-20, 2025, in Bangkok and the provinces of Chonburi and Songkhla. The 13th ASEAN Para Games will take place from January 20-26, 2026, in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima.
Speaking at the SEA GAMES 2025 launch event on December 7 in Bangkok, attended by several government officials and ASEAN ambassadors to Thailand, Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports, Surawong Thienthong, emphasized: “The hosting of the ‘Green SEA Games’ and the ‘Sustainable ASEAN Para Games’ in 2025 and 2026 aims to focus on carbon neutrality efforts, promoting efficient resource use, including clean energy, reducing plastic waste, and raising environmental awareness among those participating in the sports events. This is also an important opportunity to showcase Thailand’s potential and readiness to organize international sports and tourism events, inspiring people across society to improve their health through sports.”
Minister Surawong Thienthong further stated that SEA Games 33 and ASEAN Para Games 13 are not only sports competitions but also a vital platform to strengthen cooperation among the 11 ASEAN member countries. Hosting the events will help promote Thailand’s image and spread its soft power, offering an opportunity to showcase the country’s cultural identity and the beauty of its diverse destinations, attracting athletes, tourists, and spectators from all over the world.
SEA Games 33, with the slogan “Ever Forward,” will feature 50 sports, 569 events, and 3 demonstration sports. Meanwhile, the 13th ASEAN Para Games, under the slogan “Creating Pride Together,” will include a total of 20 competitive sports.
