VFF confirmed official jersey number of Xuan Son at the ASEAN Cup 2024

Striker Nguyen Xuan Son will wear the number 12 shirt at the ASEAN Cup 2024. This shirt number is quite unfamiliar to the Brazilian-born naturalized striker. Since his arrival in Vietnam in December 2019, Nguyen Xuan Son has worn number 97 at Da Nang, number 9 and number 10 at Binh Dinh, and now number 14 at Nam Dinh. This will be the first time he has chosen number 12.

At the Vietnam national team, number 9 is usually worn by Van Toan, number 10 is chosen by Tuan Hai, and number 14 is likely to be worn by Hai Long.

Nguyen Xuan Son has had two training sessions with the Vietnam national team. The striker born in 1997 has quickly integrated with his teammates. “Personally, I find Son to be a very open person. On the first day he arrived in Phu Tho, I could sense the passion in him. He is working hard every day. We also told Son that the whole team would do our best to support him so he feels comfortable, performs well, and brings joy to the fans,” Duy Manh shared when asked about Nguyen Xuan Son.

Speaking to the media before his first training session with the Vietnam national team, the Nam Dinh player could not hide his happiness, saying: “I think that the best moment for me was last night when I received the training shirt from the Vietnam national team. I am ready to embrace this, the training sessions, the atmosphere, and even the upcoming matches. I feel very happy and comfortable. I am enjoying this moment.”

According to the regulations, Nguyen Xuan Son will not be able to play in the first three matches of the Vietnam national team against Laos (9/12), Indonesia (15/12), and the Philippines (18/12). This naturalized striker will only be eligible to play for the Vietnam national team from the final group stage match against Myanmar (21/12).

In the last two training sessions, Nguyen Xuan Son, along with his Nam Dinh teammates Van Toan and Van Vi, were allowed by coach Kim Sang Sik to train separately for recovery after playing continuously in various competitions recently. These three players are likely to be among those not registered to play in the match against Laos.
