In today’s press conference, coach Kim Sang-sik emphasized the significance of the upcoming match between Vietnam and Indonesia in the third round of the ASEAN Cup 2024 group stage.
“There are many journalists attending today’s press conference, which shows how important tomorrow’s match is,” coach Kim began in his address at the Viet Tri Stadium. “For both Vietnam and Indonesia, tomorrow’s game is about pride. Indonesia just drew with Laos, and facing Vietnam is a crucial moment for them to overcome their difficulties. However, we have prepared fully to secure the victory.”
The match against Indonesia is considered the most critical one in the group stage for coach Kim’s team. In 2024, Vietnam has lost three times to Indonesia, conceding five goals without scoring any. Despite Indonesia fielding a U-21 squad, a victory would relieve psychological pressure for Vietnam and potentially secure a spot in the semifinals.
In their opening match, Vietnam struggled in the first half against Laos, failing to score. However, changes in the second half allowed the team to score four goals and secure a 4-1 victory. This win ended a four-match streak of draws and losses and marked Vietnam’s second victory of the year under coach Kim Sang-sik.
Currently, Vietnam sits in second place in Group B with three points, one point behind Indonesia but having played one match fewer.
The match between Vietnam and Indonesia will take place tomorrow, December 15, at 8:00 PM at the Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho).
