On the morning of December 18, Ninh Binh Club took on Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, widely regarded as the best women’s volleyball team in the world, in their second match at the 2024 Women’s Club World Championship.
After losing their opening match 0-3 to Japan’s NEC Red Rockets, Ninh Binh entered the match against Imoco Conegliano with determination despite the formidable challenge. The Italian powerhouse, even fielding their second lineup, completely outclassed the Vietnamese side. Imoco dominated the first set, quickly establishing a significant lead and winning comfortably 25-16.
In the second set, Imoco’s second team found their rhythm, leaving Ninh Binh unable to counter their overwhelming skill and pace. The Vietnamese club suffered a lopsided 8-25 defeat, underscoring the gap in experience and quality between the two teams.
For the third set, Ninh Binh made some adjustments to their lineup, while Imoco continued to rest their star players, including Zhu Ting, Gabi, and Joanna Wołosz. These changes allowed Ninh Binh to compete more evenly with their opponents and even take a surprising 8-7 lead at one point. However, Imoco quickly reasserted their dominance, scoring 10 consecutive points to seal the set 25-15 and the match with a decisive 3-0 victory.
The match concluded in under an hour, emphasizing the remarkable strength and depth of Imoco Conegliano. Despite the loss, Ninh Binh’s spirited performance in the third set offered some bright spots against the world’s elite.
Looking ahead, Ninh Binh will face Dentil Praia Clube of Brazil in their final match of the tournament tomorrow. This will be another tough test for the Vietnamese team as they wrap up their journey at the 2024 Women’s Club World Championship.
