The Cong Viettel secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2024/2025 National Cup with a commanding 2-0 victory over PVF CAND, thanks to the decisive contributions of their players who recently lifted the ASEAN Cup 2024 with the Vietnam national team. This victory showcased the team’s depth and resilience, as they overcame a strong challenge from their opponents.

The match began with both sides displaying tactical discipline and defensive solidity. PVF CAND, despite being considered the underdogs, put up a valiant fight and created several opportunities to unsettle the Viettel defense. However, the V-League representatives maintained composure and gradually took control of the game.

The first half ended in a stalemate, with neither side able to break the deadlock. The Cong Viettel’s coach made strategic changes in the second half, bringing on Truong Tien Anh, a key player who had recently shone for Vietnam in their ASEAN Cup triumph. His presence immediately added dynamism to the team’s attack, and his contributions turned the tide of the game.

In the 77th minute, Tien Anh delivered a precise cross into the penalty area, which caused chaos in the PVF CAND defense. Under pressure, defender Tran Ngoc Son committed a foul by pulling down Nham Manh Dung, earning The Cong Viettel a penalty. Stepping up confidently, Duc Chien slotted the ball into the net, giving his team a crucial 1-0 lead.

The goal energized Viettel, and they continued to press forward while maintaining defensive stability. PVF CAND attempted to respond with attacking substitutions, but the Viettel defense, led by experienced players, remained resolute. As the match entered stoppage time, The Cong Viettel sealed the victory in style. In the 90+3rd minute, Nham Manh Dung, who had been a constant threat throughout the game, latched onto a pass and clinically finished to make it 2-0.

The win highlighted the impact of the ASEAN Cup champions in the squad, particularly Tien Anh and Mạnh Dung, whose quality and composure were evident in key moments. Their performance reflected the confidence and experience gained from competing on the international stage.

With this victory, The Cong Viettel progresses to the quarterfinals, where they aim to continue their pursuit of the National Cup trophy.
