Nam Dinh FC has officially confirmed that their star striker, Son, received offers from a Saudi Arabian club and two Korean clubs.
While rumors had been circulating in the media, the confirmation came through an internal document shared within journalist circles by Nam Dinh’s communications department.
According to the details, the Saudi club was willing to pay $3 million (approximately 75 billion VND) to lure Son away from the V.League. Meanwhile, the two Korean clubs had been monitoring his contract situation with Nam Dinh even before the start of the 2024/25 season.
Son’s current contract, signed during his second stint with Nam Dinh, includes three key aspects:
• His salary is not as high as some of the top foreign players in V.League history.
• His goal bonus is among the highest in Vietnam, which is believed to be a strong motivation behind his consistent goal-scoring form.
• His signing bonus is on par with the top domestic players in Vietnam, even though he was still classified as a foreign player at the time of signing.
The Saudi club’s $3 million offer was well above the release clause in Son’s contract, which made the transfer a real possibility. At the same time, Nam Dinh’s management had already been exploring the potential of naturalizing Son, as he was approaching the five-year residency requirement for Vietnamese citizenship.
After internal discussions, Nam Dinh assessed the feasibility of Son representing the Vietnam national team. The final decision rested with the player—he could accept a lucrative deal in Saudi Arabia or stay in Vietnam with continued top-tier treatment and a chance to play for the national team.
In the end, Son chose to stay. His decision was driven by both financial security and the opportunity to wear the Vietnam national team jersey. With his outstanding performances in the V.League and a strong connection with Nam Dinh, Son’s choice to remain in Vietnam is a significant boost for the club and Vietnamese football as a whole.
