Hanoi FC has announced the appointment of Japanese coach Makoto Teguramori as the head coach for the second leg of the V-League 2024-2025 season. This move, confirmed on February 17, marks a significant turning point for the club, which aims not only to win the V-League title but also to establish itself as one of the premier teams in Southeast Asia. With his extensive experience both as a player and a coach, Makoto Teguramori is expected to bring new ideas and a fresh tactical approach to the club, instilling a winning mentality in the team as they face a challenging season ahead.
Taking charge in place of interim coach Hoang Van Phuc, Coach Teguramori’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Hanoi FC. The club has undergone some internal changes following the appointment of a new Japanese captain, which led to Hoang Van Phuc returning to the roles of technical director and youth coach. This reshuffle reflects the club’s commitment to restructuring and strengthening all areas, ensuring that both the first team and the developmental sides are aligned with the long-term vision of success. Coach Teguramori’s new role is seen as a pivotal element in this strategic overhaul, with high expectations placed on his ability to guide the team through the latter stages of the league.
In his first press conference as the new head coach, Makoto Teguramori shared his enthusiasm about joining Hanoi FC and the broader potential he sees in Southeast Asian football. “I have learned a lot from the development of Japanese football, and I want to bring that experience to this region,” he stated. Recalling his previous visits to Thailand, he remarked, “I have observed many positive aspects of both Thai and Vietnamese football, and I believe there is tremendous potential here for growth and success.” These comments underline his confidence in leveraging his background to elevate Hanoi FC’s performance, both in domestic competitions and on the regional stage.
Teguramori also stressed the immediate objective of accumulating crucial points in the league standings. “Hanoi FC needs to compete for every point in the race for the championship,” he explained. With a proud history and a record of strong performances in the V-League, the club is seen as one of the most accomplished teams in the competition. However, the coach acknowledged that while the team is already strong, there is always room for improvement. “I am very happy to be here and hope to contribute to making the team even stronger. I know this is a formidable club, and there are several areas that we can enhance to reach an even higher level,” he added confidently.
Looking ahead, Hanoi FC is set to make its first appearance under Coach Teguramori in an away match at Hoang Anh Gia Lai during Round 14 of the V-League 2024-2025 season. The club’s target for this fixture is clear: secure a victory to set the tone for the rest of the campaign. “We need the points to push for the championship. Hoang Anh Gia Lai is known for their strong defensive counterattacks, and I have already devised a plan to neutralize their style. We will do everything we can to win the next match,” Teguramori concluded.
With a renewed sense of purpose and a strategic vision in place, Hanoi FC is poised for a transformative season under Makoto Teguramori’s leadership. The club’s ambitions extend beyond domestic success, with aspirations to become a dominant force in Southeast Asian football. The coming matches will be a true test of the new coach’s methods and the team’s resilience as they embark on this exciting new chapter.
