Midfielder Tran Thi Thuy Trang, with her stellar achievements in both futsal and 11-a-side football, was awarded the prestigious “Vietnam Women’s Golden Ball” during the Gala for the Viet Nam Golden Ball Awards 2024, held on the evening of February 26 in Ho Chi Minh City. The top five nominees for the Women’s Golden Ball were Nguyen Thi Truc Huong (Than Khoang San Vietnam FC), Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan (Ho Chi Minh I FC), Huỳnh Như (Lank FC/Ho Chi Minh FC), Tran Thi Thuy Trang (Ho Chi Minh City FC), and Duong Thi Van (Than Khoang San Vietnam FC).
In 2024, women’s football in Vietnam did not compete in any major international tournaments, so the Golden Ball award largely reflected performances at the club level. Thuy Trang triumphed in the voting, demonstrating exceptional form throughout the year. The Bronze Ball went to Dương Thị Vân, while Nguyễn Thị Tuyet Ngan claimed the Silver Ball. Over the past year, Tran Thị Thùy Trang has enjoyed remarkable success in both futsal and 11-a-side football. In the 2024 Vietnam Women’s Futsal National Championship, she claimed the top scorer title with six goals, leading TP.HCM FC to the championship. Subsequently, she played a key role in helping the Vietnam Women’s Futsal Team secure a historic victory against Thailand, clinching the Southeast Asian Women’s Futsal Championship. This was the first time Vietnam’s women were able to break Thailand’s long-held dominance in the regional futsal competition.
Tran Thi Thuy Trang has emerged as the clear winner of the Vietnamese Golden Ball for Women 2024, triumphing over her peers in both futsal and 11-a-side competitions. The award was presented during a prestigious gala held at Ben Thanh Theatre in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of February 26. Among the top five nominees for the award were Nguyen Thi Truc Huong (Than Khoang San Viet Nam), Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan (Ho Chi Minh I), Huynh Nhu (Lank FC/Ho Chi Minh City FC), Tran Thi Thuy Trang (Ho Chi Minh City FC), and Duong Thi Van (Than Khoang San Viet Nam).
In 2024, with no official women’s football tournaments taking place in Vietnam, the race for the Golden Ball depended largely on club performances. Tran Thi Thuy Trang’s exceptional displays at club level propelled her to the top of the voting, as she consistently outperformed her rivals over the season. The Vietnamese Bronze Ball for Women 2024 was awarded to midfielder Duong Thí Van, while the Silver Ball went to Nguyen Thi Tuyet Ngan.
Thuy Trang has enjoyed a remarkable year in both futsal and the traditional 11-a-side game. On the futsal court, she made a significant impact at the 2024 National Women’s Futsal Championship, where she finished as the tournament’s top scorer with six goals. Her contributions helped her Ho Chi Minh City team secure the national title. Building on that success, she also led the Vietnam women’s futsal national team to a historic victory over a very strong Thailand side in the Southeast Asian Women’s Futsal Championship—marking the first time that the Vietnamese team has broken Thailand’s long-held regional dominance.
Her leadership extended beyond domestic success; Thuy Trang was instrumental in guiding the national futsal team through the qualification stage, ultimately securing a ticket to the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship Finals. This achievement also opens the door for the team to compete in the inaugural Women’s Futsal World Cup 2025 in the Philippines, scheduled for November 2025.
On the 11-a-side court, Thuy Trang continued to shine. She played a pivotal role in leading her club, TP.HCM, to clinch the national championship title. In addition, her performances contributed to TP.HCM’s successful campaign in reaching the quarterfinals of the AFC Women’s Champions League (also known as the Asian Cup 1) 2024–2025. This dual success across both formats underscores her versatility and outstanding technical skills.
At the awards ceremony, an emotional Thuy Trang expressed her gratitude:
“I would like to sincerely thank the fans and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. I am especially grateful to my family, who have always been by my side, and to my club, TP.HCM, for providing me with the opportunity to grow and excel. Winning the Vietnamese Golden Ball 20
