
In the women’s singles round of 16 at the German Open badminton tournament on the evening of February 27, Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 29th in the world) defeated Indian player Kashyap Aakarshi (ranked 48th) to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
Throughout the first game, Vietnamese badminton star Nguyen Thuy Linh controlled the match and maintained the lead against Kashyap Aakarshi before sealing a 21-14 victory. The Indian player managed to close the gap to just two points (10-12) at one stage but was unable to cause an upset.
The second game was equally challenging for Kashyap Aakarshi, as Nguyen Thuy Linh continued to showcase her versatile playing style and effective finishing. At one point, the Dong Nai-born shuttler extended her lead to seven points (17-10) and comfortably wrapped up the match with a 21-17 win.
Easing past Kashyap Aakarshi, Nguyen Thuy Linh advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals of the German Open. Her next opponent is Indian player Tasnim Mir (ranked 72nd in the world). The 20-year-old Indian talent previously held the No. 1 ranking in the world junior badminton rankings, suggesting a tough challenge for Nguyen Thuy Linh. However, the reigning German Open runner-up remains determined and ready to take on her opponent.
The German Open is part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Super 300 series, featuring a total prize pool of $240,000. Nguyen Thuy Linh, the defending women’s singles runner-up, is the sixth seed in this year’s tournament.
