Hanoi FC climbs to second place in the LP Bank V.League 1 – 2024/25 for the first time

On the evening of March 2, Hanoi FC overturned a deficit to secure a 3-2 victory over Da Nang at Hang Day Stadium, marking their first ascent to second place in the V-League 2024-2025 standings.

Facing Da Nang, Hanoi FC had the chance to reunite with several familiar faces, including Technical Director Phan Thanh Hung, Coach Le Duc Tuan, goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, and defender Nguyen Duc Anh. Both teams entered the match with clear objectives—Hanoi aimed to move up to second place, while Da Nang sought to collect crucial points to escape the bottom of the table.

Hanoi FC was without Do Duy Manh and Pham Xuan Manh due to injuries, but under new Japanese coach Makoto Teguramori, their playing style remained sharp. In the 6th minute, the hosts launched a fast counterattack, but Dau Van Toan missed the target in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. By the 15th minute, Luka Bobicanec chipped a cross from the right flank into the box, setting up Nguyen Van Quyet for a volley that sailed over the bar. Five minutes later, Van Toan and Van Quyet combined well, but Van Toan’s long-range strike deflected off a defender and went out of play.

Da Nang applied high pressure in the first 30 minutes, occasionally unsettling Hanoi’s defense. In the 14th minute, Phan Van Long fired a shot from the right side of the box, forcing a difficult save from goalkeeper Nguyen Van Hoang. Nguyen Cong Nhat’s follow-up effort from just outside the 16.5-meter line went wide of the right post, while Thiago Henrique narrowly missed making contact with a close-range chance.

Tensions flared in the 22nd minute when Doan Anh Viet and Nguyen Thanh Chung tangled during a corner kick situation. The referee had to pause play three times as both players went to the ground. In the end, Da Nang’s center-back received a yellow card.

It was Anh Viet again who was beaten by Do Hung Dung down the left wing in the 33rd minute. The Hanoi midfielder delivered a precise left-footed cross into the six-yard box, allowing Daniel Passira to head the ball down into the right corner, breaking the deadlock. This was the Brazilian’s first goal for Hanoi after five matches and 389 minutes on the pitch.

The goal boosted Hanoi FC’s confidence, leading to more chances. In the 37th minute, Pham Tuan Hai set up Le Van Xuan, but his shot deflected off Passira and went out. Three minutes later, Passira nodded the ball back for Tuan Hai, whose right-footed strike from inside the box rattled the right post.

At halftime, Da Nang coach Le Duc Tuan made two substitutions, bringing in Pham Van Huu and Luong Duy Cuong for Ha Minh Tuan and Doan Anh Viet. These changes had an immediate impact, particularly as Pham Dinh Duy moved back to his natural left-wing position, causing trouble for Hanoi’s defense.

In the 49th minute, Thiago Henrique dispossessed Kyle Colonna deep in Hanoi’s half, allowing Dinh Duy to drive into the box and fire a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, leveling the score at 1-1. Just two minutes later, Dinh Duy broke the offside trap and dribbled toward the left byline, where Colonna anticipated a right-footed cutback. Instead, Dinh Duy squared the ball across the goal, bypassing three Hanoi defenders and a Da Nang attacker before Van Huu tapped it into an empty net at the far post, making it 2-1. On the sidelines, Coach Le Duc Tuan celebrated with both arms raised in delight.

Seeing his team lose control, Coach Teguramori responded with substitutions in the 60th minute, introducing Truong Van Thai Quy and Nguyen Hai Long for Bobicanec and Dao Van Nam. Six minutes later, Hai Long equalized with a low left-footed shot into the right corner after Van Quyet’s right-wing cross was smartly controlled and laid off by Passira.

As Da Nang’s stamina waned, Hanoi capitalized by bringing on Joao Pedro and Vu Dinh Hai for Van Xuan and Passira. Meanwhile, Da Nang suffered another setback as left-back Nguyen Cong Nhat was forced off due to injury after colliding with Thai Quy.

In the 80th minute, Hanoi FC executed a quick one-touch passing sequence outside the box, but Joao Pedro’s shot lacked power. Eight minutes later, play switched to the left wing, where Le Xuan Tu accelerated past his marker, though his cross was too high. The ball reached Thai Quy on the opposite side, who delivered another dangerous ball into the box, creating chaos before Pedro reacted quickly to stab home from close range, sealing Hanoi’s 3-2 victory.

With three consecutive wins, each scoring three goals, Hanoi FC climbed to second place in the V-League 2024-2025 for the first time. They now have 26 points, four behind league leaders Nam Dinh, and one ahead of Thanh Hoa and The Cong. Meanwhile, Da Nang remains at the bottom with nine points, trailing Binh Dinh and Song Lam Nghe An by four points.
