Nguyen Thuy Linh finishes Runner-Up at 2025 German Open

After an impressive run with four consecutive victories, Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh advanced to the women’s singles final of the 2025 German Open, facing Yeo Jia Min (Singapore) on the evening of March 2. This was a rematch of their previous encounter at the India Super Series in January 2025, where Yeo had defeated Thuy Linh 2-1.

Yeo Jia Min, ranked higher, started strong, scoring the first four points of the opening set. Capitalizing on her momentum, the Singaporean shuttle dominated early on, at one point leading 9-2.

Despite the early deficit, Thuy Linh remained composed, using precise net shots and resilient defense to narrow the gap. However, in crucial moments, the Vietnamese player made unforced errors, eventually conceding the first set 16-21.

In the second set, Thuy Linh adopted a more aggressive approach, targeting Yeo backhand. Nevertheless, Yeo showcased her composure and technical prowess, dictating the game with well-placed shots. The Singaporean quickly pulled ahead, leading 7-3 and later 9-5.

With a comfortable advantage, Yeo continued to make tactical decisions that put Thuy Linh under immense pressure. As fatigue set in for the Vietnamese player towards the end of the set, she managed to save two match points but ultimately lost 17-21.

After 41 minutes of play, Thuy Linh suffered a 0-2 defeat, missing out on her first Super Series 300 title. However, successfully defending her runner-up position at the German Open remains a significant achievement for the Vietnamese athlete.
