Tien Linh, Quang Hai to face Man United?

CNN Indonesia reports that Shin Tae-yong is likely to manage the ASEAN All Stars in a friendly match against Manchester United in May 2025. The match is set to take place in Malaysia, just three days after Man Utd’s final Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa on May 25.

According to Indonesian media, Shin Tae-yong is a strong candidate for the coaching role due to his significant influence in Southeast Asian football and his current availability. However, no official decision has been made yet, and the ASEAN All Stars squad remains uncertain. That said, the team is expected to feature top players from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Vietnamese stars Nguyen Tien Linh and Nguyen Quang Hai could be leading candidates to represent Vietnam in the ASEAN All Stars lineup. Meanwhile, Nguyen Xuan Son is sidelined with a long-term injury and will miss the high-profile clash.

The first report about this match emerged from News Straits Times, a reputable Malaysian news outlet. Manchester United is scheduled to play a friendly at Bukit Jalil Stadium, and the ASEAN All Stars team is being assembled to attract fans across the region.

The Malaysian and Thai domestic leagues are set to conclude in April, but Johor Darul Tazim (Malaysia) and Buriram United (Thailand) will still be competing in the AFC Champions League Elite. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Liga 1 will finish in early May, just days before the ASEAN All Stars vs. Man Utd match.

In contrast, Vietnam’s V.League runs until late June, but clubs will only play until May 25, with the National Cup possibly following soon after. This makes it uncertain which Vietnamese players will be available for the exhibition match.
