Vietnam women’s boxing team concluded their campaign at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Serbia with a bronze medal.
Ha Thi Linh was the only Vietnamese boxer to reach the semifinals in a weight category at the tournament. The experienced fighter competed in the 63kg semifinal on the evening of March 14 (Vietnam time) against Thananya Somnuek of Thailand.
Throughout the three rounds, Ha Thi Linh struggled against her opponent due to fatigue from consecutive matches in previous rounds. As a result, Thananya Somnuek dominated the fight with aggressive attacks. After three rounds, the judges scored the match 5-0 in favor of the Thai boxer, with individual scores of 29/28, 20/26, 30/27, 29/27, and 30/27. With this semifinal loss, Ha Thi Linh secured a bronze medal in her weight class—marking the first world championship medal of her career.
At the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships in India, Ha Thi Linh also competed but was eliminated in the first round after a narrow 1-4 defeat against Thananya Somnuek. Two years later, the two fighters met again in a crucial semifinal bout, but once again, Ha Thi Linh fell short against the Thai opponent. Thananya Somnuek previously won a bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) and the 2024 Asian Championships. Last year, she also secured a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Vietnam’s women’s boxing team participated in the tournament with Ha Thi Linh, Hoang Ngoc Mai, Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi, Ngo Thi Mai Chuc, Nguyen Huyen Tran, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran, Tran Thi To Nhu, Vo Kim Anh, and Nguyen Thi Thu Nhi, ultimately earning one bronze medal.
“All our athletes competed in their respective weight categories. Following this tournament, the coaching staff will conduct technical analyses to prepare for the upcoming international competitions in 2025,” said Vietnam’s team leader, Dam Cong Dien, from Serbia.
