Phuket, April 12, 2025 – Vietnam’s kickboxing team delivered a stellar performance, securing five gold medals at the 2025 Kickboxing World Cup, which concluded on the afternoon of April 11 in Thailand. The squad reached 13 finals across various weight classes, showcasing their depth and skill.
By the final day, Vietnam claimed five golds: Hoang Thi Thuy Giang (women’s 50kg light contact and 50kg kick light), Nguyen Thi Ngoc Han (women’s 56kg full contact), Phung Hong Tham (women’s 65kg light contact), and Hoang Trong Vy (men’s 45kg low kick). Their victories highlighted Vietnam’s growing prowess in disciplines like light contact and full contact, building on their 11-gold haul at the 2024 Asian Championships.

Vietnam also earned eight silver medals in: women’s 50kg point fighting (Hoang Thi Thuy Giang), women’s 48kg low kick (Bui Thi Yen Nhi), men’s 54kg K1 (Nguyen Tuan Kiet), men’s 51kg low kick (Nguyen Dinh Minh Khue), men’s 63kg kick light (Nguyen Minh Hieu), men’s 79kg kick light (Nguyen Ngoc Quyen), women’s 65kg kick light (Phung Thi Hong Tham), and women’s over 70kg (Le Thi Yen Nhi). Six bronze medals rounded out their tally, though specifics weren’t disclosed.
The inaugural World Cup drew 630 athletes from 30 countries and territories, hosted at Phuket’s Saphan Hin Sports Center. Vietnam’s 13-member team competed across multiple events, finishing seventh overall with 5 golds, 8 silvers, and 6 bronzes. Host Thailand topped the rankings with 36 golds, 52 silvers, and 73 bronzes, followed by Uzbekistan (32 golds, 24 silvers, 18 bronzes) and Bulgaria (15 golds, 7 silvers, 2 bronzes). Iran and Kazakhstan also placed high, though exact rankings varied by source.
This success signals Vietnam’s rising status in global kickboxing, despite tougher competition than at last year’s SEA Games, where they won five golds. Hoang Thi Thuy Giang’s double-gold performance echoes her 2024 Asian Championship dominance, while Phung Hong Tham’s versatility across categories strengthens Vietnam’s core. The annual World Cup format, starting in 2025, offers more chances to challenge powerhouses like Thailand, whose depth overwhelmed the field.
