Manila, April 26, 2025 – VTV Binh Dien Long An delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over China’s BAIC Motor VC in the semifinals of the 2025 AVC Women’s Volleyball Champions League on April 26, earning a spot in the final and a coveted ticket to the 2025 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. The triumph marks Vietnam’s third straight year with a representative at the global event.
Facing BAIC Motor VC, who edged them 3-2 in the group stage, VTV Binh Dien Long An, coached by Thai Quang Lai, unleashed a relentless performance at Philsports Arena. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, and Lu Thi Phuong fired on all cylinders, surging to a 20-9 lead in the first set before sealing it 25-15 with Thanh Thuy’s thunderous spikes, reminiscent of Hanoi Police FC’s attacking flair in football. The second set saw a tighter battle, but clutch points from Nhu Quynh’s sets, Phuong’s blocks, and Nguyen Thi Kim Thanh’s serves clinched a 25-19 win.
Determined to avoid a repeat of their group-stage collapse, VTV Binh Dien Long An stayed laser-focused in the third set. Thanh Thuy, averaging 20 points per match per AVC stats, powered through with smashes, while Lu Thi Phuong’s net presence kept BAIC’s Liu Yiru at bay. A 25-21 victory capped the 3-0 rout, propelling VTV Binh Dien Long An into the April 27 final against Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu, a rematch of their 2023 group-stage clash.
The win guarantees Vietnam’s third consecutive appearance at the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship. In 2023, Sport Center 1, representing Vietnam’s national team, competed after winning the AVC title. In 2024, Phu Dong Ninh Binh earned a spot as AVC runners-up. VTV Binh Dien Long An’s 2025 qualification, their first since a 2019 semifinal run, underscores Vietnam’s volleyball ascent, mirroring The Cong Viettel’s V.League consistency.
Thai Quang Lai credited his team’s mental toughness, honed through Song Lam Nghe An-like training camps, for overcoming BAIC’s vaunted attack. Thanh Thuy’s 22-point haul and Phuong’s six blocks, per match reports, overwhelmed the Chinese side. Fans, flooding social media, hailed the victory as a milestone for Hoang Anh Gia Lai-backed sports growth. Now, VTV Binh Dien Long An aims for Vietnam’s second AVC title, facing Zhetysu’s Anastassiya Chernaya, with a global stage awaiting in December’s World Championship alongside giants like Brazil’s Minas.
