Kuala Lumpur, 27 May, 2025 – On the evening of May 26, Coach Ruben Amorim and his team arrived in Kuala Lumpur, officially starting their Asia tour. Manchester United will face the “Southeast Asian Stars” at 19:45 on May 28.
Just a few hours after their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the final round of the Premier League, the entire Manchester United squad immediately traveled to Malaysia. The Red Devils finished the season in 15th place with 42 points.
The Manchester United players were expected to arrive at their hotel in central Kuala Lumpur at 17:00, but the delayed flight caused hundreds of fans and journalists to wait for three hours.
The “Red Devils” brought a squad of 32 players to Asia, including key figures like De Ligt, Zirkzee, Onana, Luke Shaw, and Garnacho. All three were absent from the final game of the season but still traveled with the team.
Coach Amorim gave opportunities to many young talents such as Dan Armer, Kukonki, Munro, Fletcher, Moorhouse, Thwaites, and Shea Lacey to experience the tour with the senior team. This is Manchester United’s first visit to Malaysia in 15 years. In 2009, they defeated the Malaysia national team in two matches with scores of 2-0 and 3-2.
On the opposite side, Coach Kim Sang-sik faced difficulties as several Southeast Asian players withdrew due to their commitments with the national teams for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2027 Asian Cup.
The friendly match between Manchester United and the “Southeast Asian Stars” will take place at 19:45 on May 28 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium (Malaysia).
