Hanoi, 4 June, 2025 – In the internal match on the afternoon of June 4 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi), the Vietnam national team defeated the U-22 Vietnam team with a 2-1 scoreline.
The match took place at the VYS Football Training Center at 17:00. Coach Kim Sang-sik decided to play two 45-minute halves, with all players being rotated in.
U-22 opened the scoring in the first half thanks to a goal from Thanh Hoa FC forward Le Van Thuan. In the second half, the national team made a comeback with goals from Nguyen Hai Long and Do Duy Manh.
This was the only match for Coach Kim Sang-sik’s team before their away game against Malaysia in the second round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10. Finding an opponent for this training camp was not easy, as all Asian teams had already filled their schedules.
Meanwhile, Malaysia managed to invite the African team Cape Verde, ranked 72nd by FIFA. The “Lions” drew 1-1 in a friendly match on May 29 at Kuala Lumpur Stadium. On June 3, a closed-door friendly at Bukit Jalil Stadium ended with a 3-0 victory for Cape Verde.
In an interview with media this morning, Coach Kim Sang-sik said the team is still well-prepared for the important match. “We still have time until June 10 to continue analyzing Malaysia’s new players. The entire team will enter the match with the best preparation and conditions,” the South Korean coach stated.
The national team and U-22 will continue training at VYS tomorrow afternoon. On the morning of June 6, Coach Kim and his players will fly directly from Hanoi to Kuala Lumpur, while the U-22 players will return to their clubs.
In Malaysia, Vietnam will have three days to adapt, including one training session at Bukit Jalil Stadium. The match will take place at 21:00 local time in Kuala Lumpur, or 20:00 Hanoi time on June 10.
Vietnam is currently leading Group F in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. The team is tied with Malaysia on three points, but with a better goal difference (+5 compared to +2). Vietnam has not lost to Malaysia since 2014, winning seven and drawing one.
