Hanoi, 6 June, 2025 – From November 5 to 8, 2024, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) organized a seminar on developing the Women’s Football Strategy at the VFF headquarters, in collaboration with experts from UEFA and AFC.
The event was attended by representatives from the VFF Executive Committee, the Women’s Football Department, various clubs, sponsors, and media partners. Following the seminar, the Women’s Football Development Strategy was officially approved by the VFF Executive Committee and the Women’s Football Department, marking an important milestone for the future of women’s football in Vietnam.
In his opening speech, VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan emphasized that over the years, the Vietnam Football Federation has consistently held the view that the development of Vietnamese football must be comprehensive, sustainable, and cover all areas. Within this framework, women’s football holds a critical position. He added, “Not only is women’s football an essential part of the national football ecosystem, but it also carries values of equality, ambition, and the spirit to conquer the highest achievements.”

President Tran Quoc Tuan highlighted the historic moment when the Vietnam women’s national team secured a spot in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand—an achievement that has made the country proud after years of effort, investment, and sacrifices by countless generations of players, coaches, managers, and those involved in women’s football. “This success not only elevates the status of women’s football in Vietnam on the international stage but also opens a new chapter full of expectations,” he said.
However, to maintain the momentum of development and move towards professionalism—something all developing football nations aspire to—Vietnam’s women’s football needs a long-term, systematic strategy supported by both domestic and international resources. The Women’s Football Development Strategy project is a crucial step in this process, laying the foundation for specific plans on talent development, league systems, professional training, and the improvement of facilities for women’s football.
“I believe that with the combined efforts of management levels, professionals, partners, businesses, and especially the commitment of the players, coaches, and local communities, women’s football in Vietnam will not only maintain its position in the region but will also extend its reach on the world football map,” President Tran Quoc Tuan concluded.
Further elaborating on the project, Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, the Project Manager and Deputy General Secretary of VFF, shared: “The vision of the project is to build and professionalize the women’s football system, aiming for sustainable success on the international stage, thereby establishing credibility and inspiring young generations to pursue their passion for football.”
The strategic goals of the project include: Developing and professionalizing women’s football from the domestic league system, clubs, to the national team level, enhancing the leagues; Inspiring young female players, thus increasing the strength of Vietnam’s women’s football on the international stage; Focusing on the training and development of female coaches and referees; Building brand value, attracting sponsorship for the National Women’s Football League, and enhancing media coverage to promote the women’s national team; Expanding school football programs for female students to increase female participation in sports activities, especially football.
