
Hanoi, 7 June, 2025 – Vietnam women’s volleyball team began their AVC Nations Cup 2025 campaign in style, claiming a convincing straight-sets victory in their opening match on June 7 at Dong Anh Gymnasium in Hanoi.
Hosting the prestigious tournament for the first time at home in Dong Anh (Hanoi), Vietnam entered the competition not only as hosts but also as the reigning champions. Head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet, speaking at the pre-match technical meeting, emphasized that although Vietnam holds the title, the team respects every opponent and has prepared thoroughly with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome.
In their first group stage match, Vietnam faced the women’s team from Hong Kong (China). With the goal of maintaining stamina throughout the tournament, Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet fielded a well-balanced lineup, including setter Vo Thi Kim Thoa, attackers Vi Thi Nhu Quynh and Nguyen Thi Uyen, opposite spiker Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, middle blockers Le Thanh Thuy and Pham Thi Hien, substitute attacker Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, and libero Ly Ly.
The team started strong, executing well-coordinated attacks and dominating the first set 25-15. Maintaining focus and discipline in the following sets, Coach Kiet urged his players to remain sharp and capitalize on every scoring opportunity. The strategy paid off as Vietnam comfortably sealed the next two sets with scores of 25-13 and 25-10, securing a commanding 3-0 win to open their campaign.
Elsewhere in the tournament, early matches saw Australia defeating Chinese Taipei 3-0, Kazakhstan sweeping New Zealand 3-0, the Philippines overcoming Mongolia 3-0, and Iran edging Indonesia in a close 3-2 battle.
According to the schedule, Vietnam will face Chinese Taipei in their second group-stage match on June 8. The home team is expected to continue their strong form as they aim to defend their title in front of the home crowd.
