Hanoi, 17 June, 2025 – Hanoi FC has officially extended the contract of Japanese coach Makoto Teguramori after his impactful contribution in the second half of the 2024/25 V.League season. The decision comes as a reward for his success in revitalizing the team and guiding them to a strong second-place finish.
Teguramori joined Hanoi FC mid-season, replacing Le Duc Tuan, who was dismissed following a string of poor performances in both the V.League and the National Cup. Initially signed on a short-term basis, the Japanese coach’s contract included an extension clause dependent on end-of-season results.
Under his leadership, Hanoi FC played 12 matches, winning 8, drawing 2, and losing just 2, accumulating 26 points. Although the club failed to reclaim the V.League title, they pushed eventual champions Nam Dinh until the penultimate round, finishing second in the standings.
As a result, Teguramori will remain at the helm next season with the club aiming to reclaim domestic glory after a three-year wait. Assisting him will be technical advisor Yusuke Adachi, former Technical Director of the Vietnam Football Federation. Adachi will oversee the club’s youth development system and long-term strategy, strengthening the club’s foundation for sustained success.
Teguramori becomes the second Japanese coach to lead Hanoi FC, following Daiki Iwamasa, who also took over mid-season last year but departed at the end of the campaign. Teguramori is also the third head coach of Hanoi FC this season, after Le Duc Tuan and Hoang Van Phuc, marking the club’s 10th managerial change in the last five years.
The 56-year-old coach boasts a strong resume, having led Japan’s U23 team to the AFC U23 Championship title in 2016 with a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over South Korea. He also served as assistant coach under Akira Nishino for the Japan national team between 2017 and 2018. Teguramori later managed BG Pathum United and Chonburi in Thailand, winning two titles across his stints from 2022 to 2024.
Looking ahead, Hanoi FC is already reinforcing its squad for the 2025/26 season. The club has signed Hendrio Araujo, a seasoned foreign player known for his performances with Binh Dinh and Nam Dinh. In addition, the club has successfully renewed contracts with key players, including team captain Nguyen Van Quyet.
More new signings are expected to arrive at Hang Day Stadium as Teguramori builds a competitive squad capable of reclaiming the V.League crown and contending in domestic and regional competitions.
