Da Nang requests venue change for V.League 1 play-off clash against Binh Phuoc

Da Nang, 23 june, 2025 – After securing a spot in the V.League 1 2025/26 promotion/relegation play-off, SHB Da Nang has formally submitted a request to the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) to change the venue of the crucial match against Binh Phuoc, originally scheduled to take place at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on June 27.

Despite their 3-1 victory over Song Lam Nghe An in the final round of the V.League 1 season, Da Nang only managed to finish 13th, one spot above relegation, due to an inferior point tally compared to Quang Nam. As a result, they must face Binh Phuoc — the second-placed team from the V.League 2 — in a play-off to secure their top-flight status for next season.

However, SHB Da Nang has raised concerns over the location of the match, arguing that Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City does not offer a geographically fair or convenient location, especially when considering travel logistics for both teams and their supporters. In the official request sent to VPF and the tournament organizing committee, Da Nang’s leadership suggested a more neutral and accessible venue, proposing Quy Nhon Stadium in Binh Dinh as an ideal alternative.

Head coach Le Duc Tuan emphasized the rationale behind the request: “I received a notice five days ago confirming Thong Nhat Stadium as the host venue. But geographically, holding the match between a Central Region team and a Southern Region team in Ho Chi Minh City is unbalanced. A neutral venue such as Binh Dinh or Nha Trang would be more reasonable. If it were a Northern club involved, then Vinh would make sense as the venue. I’ve submitted our feedback to both VPF and the VFF.”

Da Nang’s appeal appears logical, especially as Quy Nhon is geographically situated between Da Nang and Binh Phuoc, potentially reducing travel strain and ensuring fairer conditions for both clubs. The VPF is expected to evaluate the request in the coming days and decide whether to revise the venue for the play-off, which will determine the final club to compete in the V.League 1 2025/26 season.
