Binh Duong, 27 June, 2025 – The Golden Boot race in the 2024/2025 V.League 1 season took a surprising twist as Nguyen Tien Linh was removed from the top scorers’ list after a goal correction, leaving only two players to share the prestigious title.
Initially, Tien Linh was reported to have scored 14 goals, putting him on par with foreign strikers Lucao (Hai Phong) and Alan (Hanoi Police FC) for the top scorer award. However, after a technical review and data re-evaluation, the tournament organizers confirmed on June 27 that one of Tien Linh’s goals would no longer be counted.
The goal in question occurred during the round 25 match between Binh Duong and Hai Phong. Originally attributed to Tien Linh in the 90+3 minute, the league’s organizing committee has since reassigned the goal as an own goal by Bui Tien Dung. This adjustment reduces Tien Linh’s official tally for the season to 13 goals.
As a result, the Golden Boot for the 2024/2025 V.League season will be shared between Lucao and Alan, both finishing with 14 goals. Tien Linh, however, still earns recognition as the top Vietnamese goalscorer of the season — a separate accolade often referred to as the “domestic Golden Boot.”
Despite missing out on the main award, Tien Linh’s performance remains a bright spot for Binh Duong. His 13 goals were crucial in helping the team secure a mid-table finish and reach the semifinals of the National Cup.
The official V.League 2024/2025 award ceremony, titled V.League Awards, is scheduled to take place at 15:30 on July 1, 2025, in Hanoi. During the event, top honors including the Golden Boot, Best Player, Best Coach, and Team of the Season will be handed out.
This incident highlights the importance of accurate data analysis in modern football, as even a single goal can determine the outcome of major individual accolades. For Tien Linh, the revised total may come as a disappointment, but his position as Vietnam’s leading striker remains unquestioned.
