U23 Vietnam experience Jakarta’s infamous traffic jam

Indonesia, 15 July, 2025 – On the evening of July 14, the U23 Vietnam national team held their first training session in Jakarta, Indonesia, as part of their preparations for the upcoming ASEAN U23 Championship 2025.

Coach Kim Sang Sik and his squad trained at a facility located approximately 5 kilometers from their hotel. However, due to heavy traffic congestion in Jakarta, the team spent nearly 50 minutes traveling to the training ground. Despite the delay, the players maintained a focused and determined attitude, showcasing their readiness to defend their regional crown.

Weather conditions in Jakarta have been relatively favorable, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius. The mild climate provided suitable conditions for training and acclimatization. Given the team’s long travel journey, Coach Kim Sang Sik designed a light training program focused on muscle relaxation and helping the players adapt to the weather and pitch conditions in Indonesia.

In the latter part of the session, the Korean tactician took the opportunity to introduce basic tactical movements, emphasizing team structure in both attack and defense. This foundational work will set the stage for more intensive tactical training sessions in the coming days.

As part of the tournament protocol, team leader Nguyen Anh Tuan and several assistant coaches are scheduled to attend the official pre-tournament technical meeting on the morning of July 15. Meanwhile, head coach Kim Sang Sik will participate in the pre-group stage press conference to share insights and objectives ahead of U23 Vietnam’s opening match.

The ASEAN U23 Championship 2025 marks the beginning of a packed schedule for U23 Vietnam, who will also compete in the AFC U23 Asian Cup qualifiers and SEA Games 33 over the next few months. Coach Kim has emphasized a balanced approach, encouraging his players to focus on development and collective discipline rather than being burdened by pressure to win at all costs.
