Vu Van Thanh makes shock move to Ninh Binh FC

Ninh Binh, 25 July, 2025 – In a surprising turn of events, right-back Vu Van Thanh has officially parted ways with Hanoi Police FC, just one month after signing a new three-year contract with the capital-based armed forces club.

According to the latest sources, Van Thanh has reached an agreement to join Ninh Binh FC ahead of the 2025/2026 V.League 1 season. The move caught many fans off guard, as he had only recently extended his stay at Hanoi Police FC, turning down interest from The Cong Viettel.

Previously, The Cong Viettel reportedly offered Van Thanh a lucrative three-year deal with one of the highest signing bonuses in Vietnamese football. However, the 1996-born defender chose to remain with Hanoi Police FC at the time. Just weeks later, his decision to transfer to Ninh Binh came as a surprise.

At Ninh Binh, Van Thanh will reunite with several former teammates from his Hoang Anh Gia Lai days, including Chau Ngoc Quang, Dung Quang Nho, and Tran Bao Toan. He is expected to be a key addition to the club, strengthening their right flank as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Born in 1996, Vu Van Thanh graduated from the HAGL JMG Academy alongside the famous generation of Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Tuan Anh, Nguyen Van Toan, and Luong Xuan Truong. He was promoted to Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s first team in 2015, but despite consistent performances, he and his teammates did not secure any major titles during their time at the club.

Van Thanh joined Hanoi Police FC in 2023 on a three-year deal. In his debut season, he helped the club win the V.League 1 title. He followed it up with a National Cup triumph in the 2024/2025 season.

On the international stage, Van Thanh has been a vital part of Vietnamese football’s golden generation. He played a key role in Vietnam’s silver medal finish at the AFC U23 Championship and the fourth-place finish at the 2018 Asian Games. Most notably, he was a member of the national team that defeated Thailand in early 2025 to win the AFF Cup 2024.

Widely regarded as Vietnam’s top right-back in recent years, Van Thanh has scored 33 goals in 217 V.League appearances. His move to Ninh Binh marks a new chapter in a career filled with experience, versatility, and leadership.
