Hanoi, 11 August, 2025 – On August 11, The Cong Viettel Football Club held its official season launch ceremony, announcing its ambition to win the V.League 2025/2026 championship.
Speaking at the event, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defense, praised the team’s thorough preparation and strong determination for the new season. He expressed full confidence in the players, stating: “In every player lies the DNA of The Cong’s tradition. Continue with the spirit of the ‘Red Tornado,’ delivering beautiful, effective, and captivating attacking football. You will always be the pride of soldiers across the nation and of all Vietnamese who love the team in red.”
During the ceremony, four The Cong Viettel players who won gold medals at the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship were honored with certificates of merit from the Minister of National Defense. They were U23 Vietnam captain Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Cong Phuong — scorer of the decisive goal in the final — along with Dang Tuan Phong and Nguyen Thanh Dat. This recognition highlighted the club’s commitment to youth development and its contributions to Vietnamese football.
Colonel Do Manh Dung, Director of Viettel Sports Company, emphasized the team’s fighting spirit: “Entering the new season, the whole team will play with courage, discipline, integrity, and dedication — for The Cong’s colors, for the trust of the people and the army, and to achieve our goal of conquering the V.League 1 – 2025/2026 title.”
When asked about the opening match on August 15 against Hanoi Police FC, head coach Velizar Popov remained focused on the bigger picture: “We will face every team in the league, so it doesn’t matter who the first opponent is. What matters most is how you finish the season. As always, we will aim to win the match.”
To accomplish their goal, The Cong Viettel will concentrate on three key factors: personnel, technology, and operations. The club has registered nine new signings for the season, including five domestic players and four from the overseas Vietnamese and foreign player group. Among them is 18-year-old Vietnamese-English forward Williams Lee Oliver Grant, considered an important part of the club’s near-future plans. This season marks one of the largest influxes of new players to The Cong Viettel in recent years, signaling their determination to compete for the top honor.
