Tokyo, 15 October 2025 – Vietnam women’s volleyball captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy made a strong impression in her debut for Japan’s Gunma Green Wings, scoring a total of 37 points in her first two matches to rank among the top scorers in the SV.League 2025 season.
Vietnam’s volleyball star Tran Thi Thanh Thuy has enjoyed an impressive start to her new journey in Japan, performing outstandingly in her debut for Gunma Green Wings at the 2025 Japanese Volleyball Championship (SV.League). After two previous stints abroad that didn’t meet expectations — in Turkey and Indonesia — the 26-year-old captain of the Vietnam women’s national team has returned to Japan with renewed determination and immediately made her mark.
Playing in her familiar outside hitter (opposite spiker) position, Thanh Thuy has quickly become a key attacking weapon for her new team. In the season opener against Queenseis Kariya, she led Gunma Green Wings to a 3-1 victory by contributing 17 points. In the rematch the following day, Thanh Thuy continued to shine with 20 points, though her team fell 1-3 to the same opponent.

According to official statistics released by the Japan Volleyball Federation (SV.League organizers), Thanh Thuy — affectionately nicknamed “TiTi” by fans — has scored a total of 37 points across her first two matches, consisting of 35 attack points, one block point, and one ace. This impressive performance places her 7th among the league’s top scorers, with the current leader being Mckenzie May of Astemo Rivale Ibaraki, who has accumulated 51 points.
After the opening two rounds, Gunma Green Wings sit 8th out of 14 teams in the overall standings. The team, however, has shown significant promise, especially with Thanh Thuy’s consistency and leadership on the court. Her powerful spikes, calm demeanor, and ability to adapt to fast-paced Japanese volleyball have earned praise from both teammates and fans.
Looking ahead, Thanh Thuy and Gunma Green Wings will face a major challenge on October 18, when they take on NEC Red Rockets, the reigning back-to-back champions (2022–2023, 2023–2024) and one of the strongest teams in Japan. The match will serve as a major test for Gunma’s young lineup and for Thanh Thuy’s continued form as the team’s attacking leader.
With her sharp finishing, growing experience, and relentless spirit, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy is once again proving why she remains the face of Vietnamese women’s volleyball — and is now making a strong impression in one of Asia’s most competitive volleyball leagues.
