Hanoi, 16 October 2025 – Midfielder Hendrio Araujo has officially obtained Vietnamese citizenship under the new name Do Hoang Hen, completing his naturalization process after five years in Vietnam and becoming eligible to play for both Hanoi FC and the Vietnam national team.
On October 16, Vietnamese football welcomed new reinforcement as Brazilian-born midfielder Hendrio Araujo officially received Vietnamese citizenship, taking the local name Do Hoang Hen. After months of waiting for paperwork to be finalized, the 31-year-old playmaker is now a Vietnamese citizen and will soon be eligible to represent both Hanoi FC and the Vietnam national team.
The naturalization process for Do Hoang Hen began at the end of last season, initiated by Hanoi FC, where he currently plays. Although the club initially planned to register him as a domestic player for the current V.League 1 campaign, administrative delays meant the process was only completed this month. Until now, he was still considered a foreign player and ineligible for registration as a local.
Born in 1994, Hendrio arrived in Vietnam in 2021 and quickly made an impact, scoring one goal and providing two assists in his first three V.League 1 matches. His technical skill, vision, and creativity in midfield soon earned him admiration from fans and coaches alike.
The 2022 season marked a major milestone in his career when he became a central figure in Binh Dinh FC’s remarkable run to third place — their best finish in 16 years. A year later, he joined Nam Dinh FC and continued his outstanding form, recording 12 goals and 13 assists during the 2023–2024 season. Alongside striker Nguyen Xuan Son, he formed one of the most dynamic attacking duos in the league, helping Nam Dinh clinch the V.League 1 championship.
Over five seasons in Vietnam, Hendrio has accumulated 29 goals and 31 assists, proving his consistency and adaptability. Known for his versatility, he can operate as an attacking midfielder, winger, or supporting forward — a tactical asset for both club and country.
With his citizenship now confirmed, Hanoi FC is expected to officially register Do Hoang Hen for upcoming matches. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will submit all relevant documentation to FIFA for eligibility approval, following a similar procedure to that of striker Nguyen Xuan Son.
If the process goes smoothly, fans could soon see Do Hoang Hen don the Vietnam national team jersey alongside Xuan Son in the highly anticipated Asian Cup qualifier against Malaysia in March 2026. His inclusion would not only strengthen Vietnam’s midfield but also add valuable international experience and attacking creativity to coach Kim Sang Sik’s evolving squad.
