Viet Tri, 11 November 2025 – After nearly 11 months of recovery from a serious injury, Nguyen Xuan Son affirmed that he is now at 100% fitness and ready to play the full match when Vietnam face Laos in the upcoming Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
For the first time in almost a year, Nguyen Xuan Son has returned to the Vietnam national team, marking a remarkable comeback after a long recovery period. The striker suffered a serious injury in the second leg of the 2024 AFF Cup final against Thailand, forcing him to spend nearly 12 months on the sidelines.
“Today is a special day for me. I’ve been waiting for this moment for months, ever since that injury in the AFF Cup final against Thailand. It’s always a proud and emotional feeling whenever I get to wear the Vietnam national team jersey,” Xuan Son shared.
During his 11-month rehabilitation, the 27-year-old forward went through four stages of recovery under close supervision from medical experts. He began full training three months ago and even featured briefly in a friendly match between Nam Dinh FC and PVF-CAND to regain match sharpness.

“Right now, I can play a full 90 minutes in the match against Laos. Everyone can rest assured — there’s no risk or concern about my condition. I’m fully confident that I can meet every tactical and physical demand from the coaching staff at 100% fitness,” the striker affirmed.
On November 11, head coach Kim Sang Sik led the national team’s first training session of this international break, focusing mainly on light recovery exercises to help players regain energy after a demanding V.League 1 schedule. For Xuan Son, this call-up is more than just a professional return — it is a deeply emotional milestone.
“Coach Kim Sang Sik personally came to greet me and said, ‘Welcome back.’ That simple gesture meant a lot. I was also touched to see many familiar faces — my teammates, the staff, and the whole atmosphere of the team again. My parents, my wife, and my child are proud to see me back serving the national team. Every match, every training session for Vietnam feels emotional and special,” Xuan Son said.
The Nam Dinh FC forward added that he has been training at high intensity for months, ready to contribute whenever called upon. “Whether it’s one moment, one half, or the whole match, I’m ready. I’ve trained hard for this, and I’m just waiting for the coach’s signal,” he stated confidently.
After nearly a year of setbacks and perseverance, Nguyen Xuan Son is finally back where he belongs — in the red jersey of Vietnam. “After everything, I just want to say thank you — to everyone who supported me and to my country. Deep in my heart, I’m grateful to Vietnam, and I want to give everything I have to Vietnamese football,” he concluded.
