Bangkok, 12 December 2025 – Vietnam enjoyed an outstanding start in athletics at SEA Games 33 as the national team delivered an impressive haul of two gold medals, one silver, and three bronze on the evening of December 11. It was the first day of athletics competition in Bangkok, and the Vietnamese athletes rose to the occasion with strong performances, determination, and moments that moved fans across the country.
The highlight of the day came from Ho Trong Manh Hung, who secured Vietnam’s first athletics gold medal of the Games in the men’s triple jump. Showing remarkable control and explosive power, Manh Hung produced a winning leap that outperformed all regional rivals. His gold medal not only affirmed his personal talent but also set a confident tone for Vietnam’s campaign in track and field.
Shortly after, Vietnam celebrated its second gold medal thanks to Bui Thi Ngan in the women’s 1,500 metres. Ngan delivered a tactically smart race, staying calm in a crowded field before accelerating strongly in the final lap to cross the finish line first. Her victory brought pride to the national team and demonstrated the growing competitiveness of Vietnamese middle-distance running on the Southeast Asian stage.

Vietnam also earned a silver medal in the same women’s 1,500 metres event, with Nguyen Thi Khanh Linh finishing just behind Ngan. The 1–2 result marked a dominant performance for Vietnam in one of the most demanding track disciplines, showcasing depth and teamwork in the middle-distance squad.
The team added three bronze medals to complete a memorable opening day. In the women’s 100 metres, Ha Thi Thu fought with determination in a high-speed showdown and claimed bronze, marking a promising result in a category often dominated by strong sprinters from the region. In the men’s 1,500 metres, Luong Duc Phuoc secured third place after a resilient performance that kept him within reach of the leaders throughout the race. Meanwhile, in the women’s discus throw, Le Thi Cam Dung earned Vietnam’s final bronze of the day thanks to a composed and technically solid series of throws.

Beyond the medal tally, the performances of the Vietnamese athletes provided fans with a roller coaster of emotions—joy, pride, suspense, and excitement. The opening day proved that Vietnam’s athletics team is well-prepared, mentally strong, and capable of achieving remarkable success against the region’s best competitors.
With momentum already building, the national athletics team is expected to continue aiming high as SEA Games 33 progresses. The first day’s achievements have fueled confidence and hope for even more breakthroughs in the days ahead, as Vietnam continues its pursuit of excellence in Bangkok.
