Vietnam wins first shooting gold at SEA Games 33

Bangkok, 12 December 2025 – Vietnam celebrated a significant milestone on December 12 when shooters Le Thi Mong Tuyen and Nguyen Tam Quang claimed the nation’s first shooting gold medal at SEA Games 33. The duo delivered a composed and confident performance in the 10m air rifle mixed team event, marking the 15th gold medal overall for the Vietnam Sports Delegation in Bangkok.

Earlier in the day, Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang impressed during the qualification round as they finished in first place with a combined score of 624.7 points. Their sharp focus and steady precision ensured a dominant position heading into the final, raising expectations among supporters and coaches alike.

The gold-medal match proved to be a tense and thrilling encounter. Facing a strong Thai pair competing on home soil, the Vietnamese shooters showed remarkable mental toughness. After a series of close exchanges, Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang held their nerve to secure a 16–14 victory, edging out Thailand in a tightly contested duel. The win brought joy to the Vietnamese camp and marked an important breakthrough for the shooting team at this year’s Games.

Speaking after the emotional triumph, Le Thi Mong Tuyen expressed her excitement and relief: “I feel very happy and nervous. I am truly thrilled and ready to prepare for my next events.” Her words reflected not only personal pride but also the determination of the entire shooting squad as they continue their SEA Games mission.

To acknowledge and encourage the outstanding efforts of Vietnam’s shooters, the President of the Vietnam Shooting Federation, Do Van Binh, announced a reward package to motivate the athletes. According to the decision, individual gold medalists will receive 10 million VND, while team gold medalists—such as Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang—will be awarded 15 million VND. This timely support aims to boost morale and inspire more strong performances in the days ahead.

The victory in the 10m air rifle mixed team final has added momentum to Vietnam’s shooting contingent and contributed to the country’s growing medal tally. As competition continues, the team remains focused on maintaining their high standards and striving for additional successes on the SEA Games stage.
