Bangkok, 13 December 2025 – Vietnam’s athletics team enjoyed a golden day at SEA Games 33 on December 13, as Nguyen Thi Oanh dominated the women’s 5,000m while the mixed 4x400m relay team delivered a record-breaking performance to secure another gold medal.

Vietnamese athletics continued to assert its strength at SEA Games 33 with two outstanding gold medal performances on December 13. The spotlight once again belonged to Nguyen Thi Oanh, widely regarded as the “golden girl” of Vietnamese athletics, as she successfully claimed the gold medal in her familiar and favored event, the women’s 5,000m. Competing with confidence and experience, Nguyen Thi Oanh controlled the race from start to finish, reaffirming her status as one of the most reliable medal winners for Vietnam in middle- and long-distance running at regional competitions.

In addition to Nguyen Thi Oanh’s individual triumph, Vietnamese athletics celebrated another major highlight in the mixed 4x400m relay. The quartet of Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Hang, Ta Ngoc Tuong, and Le Ngoc Phuc delivered a superb collective effort to secure the gold medal with a time of 3 minutes 15 seconds 07. This result not only earned Vietnam the top spot on the podium but also set a new SEA Games record, underlining the growing depth and quality of the national athletics program.

After the race, Nguyen Thi Hang shared her emotions about competing in a new format. “This was the first time I competed in a mixed relay event. Thailand have improved very quickly, so we knew we had to give everything. Thankfully, my teammates and I finished first. We just focused on running, running, and running,” she said. Nguyen Thi Ngoc was visibly moved by the victory, adding: “I only thought about doing my best to create a safe gap for the team.”

Ta Ngoc Tuong also expressed her joy after crossing the finish line. “I am very happy because I managed to beat the Thai athlete who defeated me yesterday. I didn’t feel pressure. I fought with everything I had and, together with my teammates, we finished first,” she said. Nguyen Thi Hang later revealed another special moment after the race: “When I crossed the line, everyone told me we had broken the SEA Games record. I was so happy.”

These two gold medals marked a highly successful day for Vietnamese athletics at SEA Games 33, combining individual excellence with outstanding teamwork. The performances not only boosted Vietnam’s medal tally but also reinforced the country’s position as one of the leading athletics nations in Southeast Asia.
