Coach Mai Duc Chung: Vietnam women’s team ready to overcome improved Indonesia in semi-final

Chonburi, 13 December 2025 – At the press conference on the afternoon of December 13, head coach Mai Duc Chung acknowledged Indonesia’s clear improvement in quality but stressed that the Vietnam women’s national team have studied their opponents carefully and are fully prepared to target a win and a place in the SEA Games 33 final.

At 16:00 on December 14, the Vietnam women’s team will face Indonesia in the women’s football semi-final at SEA Games 33. Vietnam finished top of Group B in the group stage, while Indonesia secured second place in Group A.

Speaking ahead of the match, coach Mai Duc Chung said: “We will face Indonesia in the semi-final, and this promises to be a very interesting match. Indonesia have improved very quickly. Compared to the team we played at the AFF Cup in Hai Phong, they have changed a lot. In particular, their naturalized players have brought fresh energy to the squad. This is positive progress, and we will be cautious. I rate the opponent highly and will prepare the team as carefully as possible for this match.

“I know Indonesia have several naturalized players. We have studied them and will have solutions to deal with tall and physically strong players. We will press aggressively and make full use of our strengths to compete in the best possible condition. Even though they have many naturalized players, I believe Vietnam will win.”

Meanwhile, Indonesia head coach Akira Higashiyama shared his confidence ahead of the semi-final: “We are here to make history. This is the first time the Indonesia women’s team have reached the top four at the SEA Games. Looking ahead to the semi-final, I feel confident and relaxed. Vietnam are a very strong opponent, having won the SEA Games many times and being a top contender for the title. We will do our best to play well tomorrow and aim for victory.”
