Hanoi, 2 February 2026 – Vietnam U23’s leading striker Nguyen Dinh Bac has continued to receive major recognition following his outstanding performances at the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026, claiming two consecutive individual honors announced by the Asian Football Confederation over the weekend.
The young forward was voted both Most Popular Player and Best Goal of the Tournament, further cementing his status as one of the brightest talents in Vietnamese football.
According to the AFC’s official results released on January 31, Dinh Bac dominated the fan poll for the “Best Goal of the Tournament” award. He earned an overwhelming 72.39 percent of the votes, comfortably beating Xiang Yuwang of China U23, who received 27.38 percent. The huge margin highlighted not only the quality of the goal but also the strong support he enjoys from fans across the region.
The winning moment came in the quarterfinal clash against UAE U23. Dinh Bac produced a spectacular back-header to find the net after connecting with a cross from teammate Minh Phuc. The technique, timing, and composure of the finish left the goalkeeper with no chance. The AFC described the strike with two simple words: “world-class.”
On its official website, the AFC wrote: “Vietnam’s captain restored his team’s advantage with a moment of brilliance. From Pham Minh Phuc’s delivery, Dinh Bac executed a superb back-header that showcased calmness, technique, and precision.”
This latest recognition adds to what has been an incredible rise for the 2004-born striker. He first made headlines by playing a key role in helping Vietnam win the SEA Games 33 gold medal. That success was followed by a double at the Vietnam Golden Ball Awards 2025, where he secured both the Silver Ball and Best Young Player titles.
At the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026, Dinh Bac’s impact was even greater. Alongside Vietnam’s historic bronze medal finish, he collected a series of personal awards: Top Scorer with four goals, Best Group Stage Goal (against Saudi Arabia), Most Popular Player, and Best Goal of the Tournament. He was also recently honored as Young Athlete of the Year at the Victory Cup.
His journey, however, has not been without challenges. There were difficult periods during his time with Quang Nam at club level, but his persistence paid off. Trusted by coaches Philippe Troussier and Kim Sang Sik, he steadily improved and seized every opportunity.
Many fans now compare him to former stars like Van Quyen and Cong Vinh — players who also rose to fame at a young age. With time firmly on his side, Dinh Bac still has a long career ahead.
If he maintains his hunger and avoids complacency, Vietnamese football may be witnessing the rise of its next great icon.
