Hanoi, 10 February 2026 – Vietnam Open has officially entered a new era, marking a major milestone for Vietnamese badminton. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has confirmed that the Vietnam Open will be upgraded to a Super 100 event within the BWF World Tour for the 2027–2030 cycle. This historic decision makes Vietnam Open the first badminton tournament in Vietnam to be officially included in the BWF World Tour system.
As part of this upgrade, the tournament’s total prize money will increase significantly to USD 140,000, reflecting both improved competition standards and Vietnam’s growing credibility as a host nation for international sporting events. The move highlights the organizational capacity, infrastructure, and long-term development vision of Vietnamese badminton.
The inclusion of a Super 100 event on home soil is expected to bring substantial benefits to local players. Being part of the World Tour allows athletes to earn official ranking points, prize money, and high-level competitive experience without the financial burden of frequent overseas travel. For Vietnam’s players, this creates a vital pathway to progress on the international stage.
One of the biggest beneficiaries is Nguyen Thuy Linh, the current women’s singles No.1 of Vietnam. From 2027 onward, she will enjoy a significant advantage, as her world ranking will enable her to qualify for most World Tour events. Competing at home in a Super 100 tournament will offer her valuable ranking opportunities and a competitive edge, while also inspiring the next generation of Vietnamese shuttlers.
This development comes at a time when BWF is implementing a major restructuring of its global competition system. The World Tour’s annual prize pool has been increased to USD 26.9 million, alongside a substantial expansion in live broadcast coverage worldwide. Against this backdrop, Vietnam Open’s elevation is seen as a strategic breakthrough, opening the door for Vietnamese badminton to accelerate its growth and establish a stronger presence on the global map.
Overall, Vietnam Open’s entry into the BWF World Tour represents more than just a tournament upgrade—it signals a new chapter for Vietnamese badminton, filled with opportunity, ambition, and international recognition.
