Hanoi, 26 February 2026 – Dinh Bac has received additional disciplinary action from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) following the red card he was shown at the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.
The forward was one of the standout performers for Vietnam U23 during their successful campaign, which included winning the men’s football gold medal at SEA Games 33 and securing third place at the AFC U23 Championship. However, his tournament ended on a sour note after being sent off in the third-place playoff against South Korea U23.
In that match, Dinh Bac committed a dangerous challenge on Lee Chan Wook while attempting to win the ball. The referee immediately issued a straight red card. Despite being reduced to ten men, Vietnam U23 held their nerve and went on to win the match in a penalty shootout.
After reviewing the incident, the AFC deemed the foul “serious” and handed Dinh Bac a two-match suspension along with a fine of USD 1,000.
As the player has now exceeded the age limit for U23 competitions, the suspension will be carried over to senior international level. This means that if selected for the Vietnam national team, Dinh Bac will be unavailable for the upcoming Asian Cup 2027 qualifier against Malaysia in March 2026.
